Sponsorship Within Canada

In-Canada sponsorship is an option available when sponsoring spouses or common-law partners. This process often has advantages over the out-of-Canada sponsorship process. For starters, sponsorship done within Canada is decided by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada officers located in Canada, who, in many cases, are more trusting and accommodating than officers located as certain overseas visa offices.

In-Canada sponsorship also allows the spouse or partner being sponsored to apply for an open work permit while the application is being processed.

Along with the other requirements associated with a sponsorship application, for an in-Canada application, both the sponsor and the sponsored spouse or partner have to be residing in Canada.
