Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program
The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program currently has a quota of 5,500 provincial nominations per year. The program remains an attractive option for low-skilled and semi-skilled workers, workers who are likely to have low scores under the federal Express Entry system, and workers who have difficulty meeting the language benchmarks of the Federal Skilled Worker Program and the Canadian Experience Class.
In an AINP application, the applicant first submits an application to the Province of Alberta to be considered for nomination. Currently average processing times are in excess of one year, but processing times vary depending on the occupation of the applicant. Some applicants may receive nominations within weeks and others may have to wait 2 or more years.
Once an applicant receives a nomination certificate from the Alberta Government, he or she can then apply to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada for permanent residence under the Provincial Nominee Program.
